Vacations are just fabulous.
Except when they end.
Which is where I find myself today. The final week day of my oh-so-short spring break. But H54F is about celebrating the good, finding the positive in our week, so that is what I shall do.
1. My sister is studying to be a teacher (and is having to complete way harder assignments than I ever did as an undergrad). We spent some time together at a Native American Pow Wow. It was neat to do something we've never done before and the dance contests we witnessed were unlike anything we've ever seen. Pretty cool.

3. I've been a crafting fool working on projects for my mom, like these cute Minnie Mouse glasses for my cousin's daughter and my sister's boyfriend's daughter.
I'm also working on a gigantic Cardinal's wreath that I hope I can finish before Opening Day and some engraved mugs for cousin's wedding.
4. Got in some clutch friend time this week, dinner with my best gal pals, Ash and Elyse. And visited my friend Jody and her adorable twins today. It is amazing how much they have grown in three months. Like weeds I tell ya.
5. The New Girl. What have I been missing?! I started watching around the end of January and decided I would spend a portion of spring break catching up on back episodes on Hulu. Thursday I was able to watch all of season 2. This show is hilarious! And I'm a big fan of Nick and Jess - that kiss after the True American game made me a little weak in the knees....woo wee!
Bonus: It was our 2 year house anniversary yesterday!

How was your week? Anyone digging on some new JT or catching up on new to them shows? Have a great weekend!
It's Friday.
The first of 10 days of no trabajo.
I'm wondering what I should do first?
How about link up with Lauren for High Five for Friday and recap this fabulous four day work week. Here goes!
1. My friend Jody and I have taken to starting our work day with a smile and chanting, "It's going to be the best day ever!" It may be a little hokey, but it makes the day feel just a tiny bit more positive.
2. My cousin, Lauren, is getting married in May and we kicked off her festivities with her bridal shower last Saturday.
My mom and aunt were in charge of the shower and they definitely brought their "A" game. We ate delicious food and "oohed" and "aahed" over all the neat things they made. The women on my mom's side are incredibly crafty - nearly everything at the shower was hand/home made - the cake, the favors, the center pieces, and the "bride" headband my cousin wore. They worked really hard and it was neat to see all of it come together. I got in on the action cutting the vinyl initials for all the wine glasses and creating the name print.
3. Signed my contract for the 2013-2014 school year. I don't know why but it always feels good to see that 'confidential' letter in my mailbox, waiting to be signed. It also contained a nice little pay raise for next year too!
4. Got a reply back from The Petersiks on Instagram. (I'm @sara_homelife, you should totally follow me!) Is that silly to be high fiving about a social media shout out with a famous person (at least in my book)?
5. 10. Days. No. Work.
Hope your week was spectacular. Enjoy your weekend!

...that I haven't cut my hair in a year. A YEAR. It's all split ends and perma-ponytail over here but I'm fine with it.
... that I mentally started spring break last Friday.
... that my stacked dirty dishes now resemble a Jenga tower.
...that my to-do list over spring break includes napping and crafting.
... that my students officially think that I am old. (I play music before we get ready to leave each class period and today I changed it to the Harlem Shake and danced with them. They were surprised I even knew what it was!)
... to feel really good about deleting 744 files from my Dropbox.
Finally.
A long night at school, an emergency eye doctor appointment, and students who think spring break started last week instead of next Thursday made this week seem a little longer than usual.
But there was some good stuff as always...
1. Called up DirecTV and got $10 off my bill for the next YEAR. I was all like
2. A few of my struggling students made some major gains this week, it definitely felt good to be a teacher this week.
3. We paid off Chris' car this week. TWO YEARS EARLY. Suck it Wells Fargo.
Was a little nervous writing that check though...
4. Spring break is only 4 school days away. It can't come soon enough. The to-do list is already starting to form.
5. "1994" by Jason Aldean and "Mama's Broken Heart" by Miranda Lambert have been playing on repeat, such fun songs to sing in the car when no one can hear me!
Have a great weekend!

Linking up with Lauren over at From My Grey Desk.
It's been quite the busy day around these parts. I kicked off my day by getting to school super early to help a co-worker learn some fancy tricks with her SMART Board.
It's cold at 6:15 in the AM.
Then it was on to a department meeting - everyone is in a tizzy because we are adding a new team. It's all "who's gonna teach what?" and "I heard such and such..." at school right now. I try not to get sucked into the drama but who am I kidding, I want to know what's up!
After our department meeting it was on to a PLC meeting designing our latest assessment for Southwest Asia and North Africa. Thank goodness for time to plan!
You may be thinking, does this woman teach any kids or just go to meetings all day? Well, yes, the kids finally arrived at 10:20am. We have a delayed start once a month to work with other grade level teachers in our content area.
After buzzing through six 25-30 minute classes in which we reviewed for our quiz tomorrow by playing an exciting game of tic-tac-toe (no, seriously, it was super exciting). The students have known about the quiz for over a week I still had to answer the question, "What is the quiz over?" Sometimes I am pretty sure I'm talking to the walls. SMH.
One more meeting, plan time, then supervising after school detention. It amazes me that students, when given a choice between reading or twiddling their thumbs, will often pick twiddling.For. An. Hour. I may have made about 5,000 other suggestions of how my detentioneer could have been using his time but nope, sitting and staring at his hands it was. Hrumph!
The most exciting part of my day...an emergency trip to the eye doctor! I haven't been in years...pretty sure I haven't been as an adult. But today was the day I made my triumphant return because I've been having the the weirdest flashing sensation in both eyes and I couldn't see! It lasted about an hour and a half today and was kind of scary.
By the time I got to the office, I was no longer experiencing any symptoms but felt a little off. Turns out I experienced an "ophthalmic migraine aura" without getting the migraine. The same thing happened about a month ago and didn't result in a migraine that time either. So I guess I'm not going to get headaches any more just some temporary blindness...but, I'll take that over a migraine any day!
While examining my eyes, the doc was making chit chat and noticed I was decked out in school gear. He asked what I did and when I replied "geography teacher" he responded with, "What's your favorite lake?" At first I thought he was trying to test me, like does this chick who thinks she's about to go blind really know what she's talking about?
After about a second more of contemplation, the answer sprung to my head.
"Lake Titicaca of course!" (It's every 6th grader's favorite lake once they learn about it during our Latin America unit.)
We both cracked up laughing.
Good ol' Lake Titicaca.
I don't mess around when it's below freezing. |
